How to Use Affirmations with Children

Affirmations blog

In just a few minutes every day, you can create a more positive mindset for your child - How? By using Affirmations!

What is an Affirmation?

It is a phrase that reflects a positive thought. Simple and amazingly effective, this is a tool that you can use with anyone, or any age, even if they cannot read you can read them out and they can choose. Simplicity is the ability to take a simple sentence and be able to say the words out loud and think about them.

It really does just take a moment!

What Affirmations Can I Use?

Any that you feel is right for you and your child. I have listed some of my favourites below. If you would like a set of printable affirmations then just sign up to the newsletter and I will email them straight to you.

  • I am happy

  • I love life
  • I see the beauty around me
  • I am enough
  • I will achieve my goals
  • I love trying new things

How do I use an Affirmation?

The joy is that there really are lots of ways they can be used. You can write some down, or get your children to write their own! How about printing some out - there are free ones available when you sign up to the newsletter. They are in an A4 format, you simply print out, cut them up and then you can put them into a jar.

The key to affirmations is that the person has to choose their own - it is again part of this mindful process that the power of the words is in taking ownership of the affirmation!

Who can use them?

There are phrases that can be used for children of all ages, from pre-school onwards they are a great tool to keep in your parenting toolbox! If you wanted to find other resources that are helpful then check out the resources page. It has lots of freebies that will help anyone looking to create more Mindful Moments with their children. For teachers, there are plenty of audio's and downloads too, perfect for the classroom.

Why Affirmations?

A positive thought can really affect how we think. By focusing on that one phrase or sentence you can literally change how you perceive and feel other thoughts too. The brain is an amazing thing, if you give it permission it will take that optimism and thread it through into all aspects of your day. Affirmations allow our brain to gain that focus, which then affects how we react to other thoughts, events and feelings.

You know how you wake up in a bad mood, everything then seems to go wrong! Well, in reality, it doesn't really but our brain is perceiving it that way. The same can be done with a positive mindset, so you can turn a bad day around with a simple positive affirmation!
